After the 48

So, you've made a film? Perhaps even won an award. Now what?

Many filmmakers wonder what to do with their film after the 48. Our best suggestion is: get it out there!

This could mean sending it to festivals, screening it at your local cinema, uploading it to websites, and getting it on television. Show it to anyone you can!

Using it as part of your reel to get that dream job has proven useful for many filmmakers over the years.

Because the 48HFP is working with distribution outlets for the films, during the first year, the Team Leader's Agreement limits what you can do and when you can do it.

Confused about how this all works? Check out the information below. Please note that this is simply a description of the rights, based on the 2023 Team Leader's Agreement. For questions or further clarification, please refer to the Agreement.

Note: If you utilized SAG-AFTRA cast or crew members, there are additional restrictions and you may have to get permission from SAG-AFTRA for some uses of your film.

Can I sell my 48HFp film? Absolutely!

The policy for the sale of your 48HFP film depends on when it is being sold and whether the purchaser is seeking exclusive rights.

  • If the purchaser does not require exclusive rights to the film and if the film is sold after June 30 of the year following the creation of the film, when 48HFP and filmmaker share rights, you do not need the 48HFP's permission tosell your film.
  • If the purchaser seeks exclusive rights to the film, the 48HFP shall grant release of its rights to the film for 20%of the purchase price (80% to the team leader/20% to 48HFP).
  • If the purchaser does not require exclusive rights to the film and if the film is sold before June 30 of the year following the creation of the film (when 48HFP controls the bulk of the rights) 48HFP shall grant release of its rightsto the film for 20% of the purchase price (80% to the team leader/20% to 48HFP).

NOTE: The 48HFP does not have any ownership interest in your film/story concept. In addition, if you substantivelychange your film from your submitted version, the 48HFP does not have an interest in the new version.
