Join the DC 48 Hour Film Project for two virtual sessions designed to help filmmakers learn about the 2026 Holiday competition, ask questions, build teams, and connect with other members of the Washington, DC filmmaking community.
Participants may attend either session or stay for the entire event.

The Google Meet link will be emailed to registered participants one day before and again on the day of the event.
SESSION 1: INFORMATION & Q&A
6:00 PM–6:55 PM
DC Producers James Lewis and Stephanie Cristancho will introduce the DC Holiday 48 Hour Film Project and explain how the competition works.
Topics will include:
• Competition rules and required creative elements
• Holiday-themed genre options
• Team registration and preparation
• How to form or join a filmmaking team
• Opportunities for actors and crew members
• What to expect during competition weekend
The presentation will be followed by a live question-and-answer period for new and returning filmmakers.
SESSION 2: FILMMAKER NETWORKING
7:00 PM–8:00 PM
The second session will focus on networking and team building.
Team leaders seeking cast and crew members will have an opportunity to discuss their needs. Actors, writers, directors, producers, editors, cinematographers, sound professionals, composers, makeup artists, production designers, and other filmmakers looking to join teams will also be invited to introduce themselves and share their experience.
James Lewis and Stephanie Cristancho will moderate the session. When called upon, participants will briefly introduce themselves, describe the skills they can contribute, and explain whether they are forming a team or hoping to join one.
Participants are encouraged to have links to their reels, résumés, portfolios, websites, social media pages, or other relevant work ready to share in the Google Meet chat.
ABOUT THE DC HOLIDAY 48 HOUR FILM PROJECT
The DC Holiday 48 Hour Film Project returns November 6–8, 2026.
During the official competition weekend, teams will receive a holiday-themed genre and required creative elements. They will then have only 48 hours to write, produce, shoot, edit, and submit an original short film.
Completed films will premiere at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in November. The Best of DC Holiday Screening and Awards Ceremony will take place on December 3, 2026.
The winning film will advance to Filmapalooza and may also be considered through the 48 Hour Film Project’s Cannes Short Film Corner selection process.

Looking to start or join a film team? This is your chance to meet fellow filmmakers, build connections, recruit cast and crew, and find opportunities to join a team.
Whether you’re an actor, director, writer, producer, editor, cinematographer, camera operator, sound professional, composer, makeup artist, production designer, or simply interested in filmmaking, you are invited to attend. All experience levels are welcome!

The 48 Hour Film Project is a global filmmaking competition held in cities around the world. The DC Holiday competition gives filmmakers across the Washington metropolitan area one unforgettable weekend to create an original holiday-themed short film.
On Friday night, teams receive their holiday genre and required creative elements. They must then write, produce, shoot, edit, and submit their completed film by Sunday night.
The DC Holiday competition takes place November 6–8, 2026. Completed films will premiere at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in November.
The filmmaking journey continues at the Best of DC Holiday Screening and Awards Ceremony on December 3. Awards may include Best Acting, Best Directing, Best Writing, Best Cinematography, Audience Awards, and the top honor of Best Film.
The winning film will represent DC at Filmapalooza and may also be considered through the 48 Hour Film Project’s Cannes Short Film Corner selection process.
