Genre Drawing
‘Life is like a box of…’ Genres! At the Kickoff event, each team receives two genres in a random drawing. Whether it is “Comedy or Horror” or “Musical or Mystery”, each team must ensure that their film fits into one of the genres–or a combination of both.
Genre Group #1
Action / Adventure
A genre focused on excitement, physical challenges, and high-stakes journeys or missions.Comedy
A film based on humor and making the audience laugh.
Dark Comedy
A style of comedy that makes light of subject matter that is generally considered taboo
Drama
A film with a more serious tone, focused on realistic characters and emotional depth.
Fantasy
A film that explores imaginative and often otherworldly realms, featuring elements such as magic, mythical creatures, and fantastical settings.
Film de Femme
A film that centers around strong female characters and their experiences, perspectives, and relationships.
Film Noir
A style of filmmaking characterized by such elements as cynical heroes, stark lighting effects, frequent use of flashbacks, intricate plots, and an underlying existentialist philosophy.
Fish Out of Water
A film that typically involves a character being placed in a situation or environment that is completely unfamiliar or incompatible with their usual lifestyle or background.
Horror
A film that aims to evoke fear, suspense, and terror in viewers through the use of frightening or unsettling elements.
Mockumentary
A type of film that takes the form of a documentary but presents fictional or parody content in a satirical or humorous manner.
Musical
A film that requires songs by the characters which are interwoven into the narrative, sometimes accompanied by dancing.
Road Movie
A journey-driven story where characters travel from place to place, with the trip itself shaping their transformation.
Romance
A film that focuses on romantic relationships between characters as the central plot element.
Sci Fi
A film that explores speculative or futuristic concepts, technologies, and scenarios, often grounded in scientific principles or theories.
Thriller / Suspense
A film that aims to generate suspense, tension, and excitement through the anticipation of danger, intrigue, or unexpected twists in the plot.

Buddy Film
A film that typically revolves around the friendship or partnership between two characters.
Family Film
A film that is suitable for audiences of all ages, with content that is generally appropriate and entertaining for children and adults alike, and/or a film about a family.
Food Film
A film that revolves around the theme of food, cooking, and culinary culture.
Heist
A plot focused on planning and executing a high-stakes theft, often with twists, teamwork, and double-crosses.
Inspirational Film
A film that aims to uplift, motivate, and inspire audiences by telling stories of triumph over adversity, personal growth, and the power of the human spirit.
Misunderstanding
A false assumption leads to conflict, confusion, or unintended consequences.
Moral Dilemma
A character must choose between two difficult options with meaningful consequences.
Revenge
A story driven by a character’s pursuit of justice or retribution for a past wrong.
Romantic Comedy
A lighthearted story centered on love, where humor drives the journey toward a romantic connection.
Silent Film
From the dawn of cinema to the early 1920s, films did not have synchronized sound—they only had the live piano player. We're reliving that, but in 48 hours! A silent film made as part of the 48HFP may have music and sound effects; however, it may not have dialogue or nat sound (that is, sound recorded while shooting). So if a door shuts in your movie, you can use any sound effect you please as long as it's not the actual sound of that door shutting. And if a person talks, you can use any sound effect you please as long as it's not the sound of any person talking. Sound good?Single Room Movie
