Filmmakers from all over the Richmond, VA area will compete to see who can make the best short film in only 48 hours. The winning film will go up against films from around the world at Filmapalooza 2019 for a chance at the grand prize and an opportunity to screen at the Cannes Film Festival 2019 Short Film Corner.

Kickoff Event

Fri, Jul 20, 2018 @ 6:00pm - 7:00pm

Each participating team must have a representative at the official Kickoff Event of the 48 Hour Film Project.

At the event, each group must submit a complete Team Leader's Agreement, signed by its team leader. A team may not participate without submitting this agreement.

Each group will choose the genre of its film in a random drawing. Each group will also be assigned required elements that must appear in its film (character, prop, line of dialogue).

Dropoff Event

by 7:30pm to be on-time

The participating group/team must complete its film/video work in time to deliver it by 7:30pm.

Only works that meet the deadline will be officially part of the competition. All films received on Sunday (on-time and late) will be screened.

Filmmakers from the Richmond area will race to make a film in just 48 hours, and you can see them in their dazzling World Premier Screenings! The 48 Hour Film Project (48HFP) is the world's largest timed film competition, and it has returned to Richmond as a part of the 2018 international tour. We anticipate three separate screenings with different films in each screening group. One film will be chosen by a panel of film professionals as the "Best 48HFP Film of Richmond" and that film will move on to screen at Filmapalooza, and even get a shot at a screening in next year's Cannes Film Festival! Each screening will include a Q&A with the filmmakers immediately following the films and a chance for YOU to select an Audience Choice Award for that screening. Tickets will be available for purchase online or at the door, cash only. Films are not rated and some may contain mature content or language.

The 48 Hour Film Project (48HFP) is the world's largest timed film competition, and it has returned to Richmond as a part of the 2018 international tour. One film will be chosen by a panel of film professionals as the "Best 48HFP Film of Richmond" and that film will move on to screen at Filmapalooza, and even get a shot at a screening in next year's Cannes Film Festival! A runner-up and awards in 14 other categories will also be awarded immediately after the screenings.

Tickets will be available for purchase online or at the door, cash only.

Films are not rated and some may contain mature content or language.
