48 Hour Filmmakers in Cannes!Tuesday, June 4, 2019

From Bogotá to Buffalo and from Utrecht to LA, a record number of 48 Hour Filmmakers were in Cannes for the annual festival.

Since 2007, the 48 Hour Film Project has presented a special screening at the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner of the Best 48 Hour Films from Filmapalooza.  This year was no exception and with more filmmakers than ever in attendance, this special screening of the Best of the 48HFP was completely sold out.

Attendees enjoyed seeing the quality and creativeness of our films screened in one of the festival theaters in The Palais.  The screening culminated with the presentation of our 2018 Grand Champion "Sonrisita".

And at a festival as prestigious as Cannes, you never know who you might bump into.  Two of our 48HFP filmmakers, Maria and Marc Braun from Buffalo, were standing in the Palais when Quentin Tarrantino passed by on his way to a meeting.  You just never know who you're going to meet in Cannes!

The Cannes Film Festival is a combination festival and industry market.  It is the top place to network and meet film professionals from across the globe.  While the focus of the Marché du Film is the buying and selling of features, the Short Film Corner is dedicated to promoting shorts and helping short filmmakers to make connections to advance their careers.

Our filmmakers attended a festival workshop to learn the in's and out's of the market and how to represent themselves and their films.  In addition, there were other workshops on pitching and funding.

Of course, it would not be the Cannes Film Festival without parties and red carpet screenings--and 48 Hour filmmakers were well represented at both!
