The 48 Hour Film Project
2008 Tour About the 48HFP For Filmmakers Kitchen Sink

48HFP Filmmakers Go to Filmapalooza

On March 8th through 11th, 2007, many teams from our 2006 tour converged in Albuquerque for Filmapalooza.

We met each other; we watched each other's films; we met industry and film festival representatives; we competed in the Filmmakers' Olympics; we talked with Alexander Payne; and we had parties that couldn't be beat.

On March 10th, 2006, at a reception at Sauce in downtown Albuquerque, the following was announced:

The winner of the Fall Shootout was Vaughn Juares from Minneapolis for "Tipparinos", in which hand-drawn gangsters fight it out with an unintentionally vicious Sam Adams beer.

The winner of the HD Filmmakers Showdown was Bargain Basement Films from Baltimore for "Maestro", in which the master violinist's hunger must be pacified—whatever the cost. Bargain Basement Films took home an HVX200 HD camera as their award.

For the 48 Hour Film Project 2006, Best Cinematography went to Milk from Seattle for "Manquer", an homage to the French New Wave in which a bicycle is stolen from its beloved owner.

Best Editing went to Vaughn Juares from Minneapolis for "Stairwell C", in which a pregnant woman is trapped in the World Trade Center on September 11th.

Best Screenplay went to Cinema Syndicate from Portland, Oregon, for "Tooth and Nail", in which an incumbent politician is revealed to be a vampire and must defend his seat against a challenger with pristine family values.

Best Acting went to Biscuits and Gravy from Los Angeles for "Doughboy, Beware", a silent comedy in which three WWI-era Privates learn all about hygiene.

Best Directing went to Artnum from Paris for "Caramba!", in which two call center operators have a phone-answering duel, where losing the duel means losing their jobs.

The second runner-up was Afafas from Miami for "Matan al Payaso", in which several underworld groups plot the assassination of a nefarious gangster known only as "the clown".

The first runner-up was Milk from Seattle for "Manquer".

And the winner was Cinema Syndicate from Portland, Oregon, for "Tooth and Nail"!

At the Awards Ceremony, city winners were presented with the 2006 48 Hour Film Trophy, made by DC glass artist Tim Tate.

Congratulations to the winners and everyone who made a film as part of the 48 Hour Film Project 2006 Tour!
