Mexico City Helicopter Marriage ProposalThursday, January 12, 2017

Throughout the years, the 48HFP has brought together not only many groups of filmmakers, but also many different couples. We have seen numerous proposals on the red carpet during our film screenings, but last month we had a first in 48HFP history--a marriage proposal on set in a helicopter! Mexico City filmmaker Samuel Tobias from Team Detonante met his girlfriend, actress Mariana Garte, while working together on a 48HFP film several years ago. Even though their film didn't walk away with any awards in that year's competition, Tobias still counted it as a 'win' because that's the year he met Mariana.

When Tobias decided that now was the time to ask her the big question, he wanted to do so in a way that also celebrated how they came together in the first place--during their 48HFP filmmaking weekend! Tobias had arranged for a helicopter during their film weekend under the guise of shooting some aerial footage to be used in their 48HFP film. That Saturday during the film weekend, the couple took off in the helicopter for their shoot. Flying high in the air above the city, Tobias surprised his girlfriend with the proposal--and she said yes!

As it turns out, the proposal wasn't the only big win that came about from the film weekend. Their film, Fortuna by Team Detonante, earned a Best Actress nomination for Mariana, the Best Directing award for Tobias, and went on to win Best Film for the Mexico City 48HFP!

Many congratulations to Tobias, Mariana, and the rest of the team for their award winning film and pending nuptials!
