We Have A Winner--for the First Ever World Film Championship-Latin AmericaTuesday, November 1, 2016

In October, film fans around the world had a special opportunity to watch and vote for their favorite films to determine the winner of the inaugural World Film Championship (www.worldfilmcup.com) for Latin America.

A first of its kind, the World Film Championship began with the top 16 films made for the 48 Hour Film Project in 2015 in the Caribbean and Latin America. For the first weekend--the 'Group Stage'--films were randomly assigned to film groups. Thousands of people from around the world viewed the films and voted for their favorites. The voting was open for five days, closing on Sunday, October 23rd.

In the second stage--the 'Finals'--the winners of the four groups went head to head. More than 6,000 people visited the website to watch the films. The voting was very close. The audience selected Siempre Volvemos by Nopalix Films of Mexico City. You can view the film above or at http://worldfilmcup.com/latinamerica/

Congratulations to all of our filmmakers. Special thanks to the Mexico City Tourism Office for their support. We are currently seeking sponsors to expand the World Film Championship to other regions next year.
