Films, Fun, And More In Store At Filmapalooza!Wednesday, March 6, 2019
Today kicks off our biggest and most exciting event of the year, Filmapalooza in Orlando!
Filmmakers, producers, and staff have made their way to Florida for our annual celebration of 48HFP filmmakers from around the world. By the end of the week, we will have over 360 filmmakers representing 80 different cities in 29 countries, all who have traveled to Orlando to be a part of this year's event. What lies in store for them over the next few days? Over 120 of the top 48HFP films from around the world, parties, networking events, workshops, and an experience that will stay with them for a lifetime.
This year's screenings will take place at the Cobb Plaza Cinema in downtown Orlando. There, we'll screen all of our Best Film winners from the 2018 Tour, along with the winning films from our special genre competitions and the Four Points Film Project. In addition, we're kicking things off on Wednesday night with a special Retro Screening featuring some of our favorite 48HFP films from the last few years, including a special batch of films right from the Orlando 48HFP.
One of the big reasons to attend an event like Filmapalooza is for the networking opportunities, and this year attendees will have plenty of them to choose from. Our very first event is a Welcome Reception at EVE Orlando, which will be the first time that attendees will come together and get to know one another. We've also set up another networking event just for the team leaders in attendance, Thursday night at Vyce Lounge. This will give winning filmmakers from all around the world a chance to connect with each other and to share ideas.
There are also plenty of chances to meet up with other filmmakers at the parties, and as always, this year's Filmapalooza will have plenty of those in store. From the opening night After Party at EVE, to our bar crawl and karaoke event throughout downtown Orlando, and our Friday night party at one venue that is home to a wine bar, social club, and speakeasy all in one place, attendees will be able to party it up every single night.
Saturday is the final and biggest day of Filmapalooza. We start things off with a series of nine different workshops on subjects like festivals, feature films, preproduction, screenwriting, film makeup, and more. The workshops are included for all Filmapalooza badge holders, and represent a great opportunity to get training from professionals in the film industry that are among the top in their field. Saturday evening will be our Best of Filmapalooza Screening and Awards Ceremony at the beautiful outdoor Walt Disney Ampitheatre right on the water at Lake Eola Park. We'll be screening the top ten films (yet to be announced) from the 2018 Tour. In between the films, we will be presenting the city winners their official Best Film trophies.
Last year we started a new Filmapalooza tradition--honoring a film professional that has influenced the film community at large and been a source of inspiration for filmmakers by giving them the 48HFP Creative Inspiration Award. Our inaugural recipient was director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, well known for films like Amelie, Delicatessen, and The City of Lost Children. The recipient of this year's award will be announced during the Awards Ceremony, where we will take a few minutes to honor her contribution to the film world.
Finally, we'll close out the evening by announcing all of this year's global award-winning films. One film among the nearly 5,000 films that were created as a part of last year's tour will be crowned our Global Grand Champion. We will also announce the selection of films that will represent the 48HFP at Cannes Film Festival later this year.
This year's Filmapalooza is guaranteed to be filled with action, comedy, drama, and everything else you would expect out of a 48 Hour Film Project. Follow along on any of our social media channels below, or by searching for #48Filma.
