The New Orleans 48 Hour Film Project
What Happened During Your Weekend?
The New Orleans filmmakers share stories from their wild weekend of filmmaking. (Blogging ended shortly after the filmmaking weekend.)
Rollin!!
Much more crazy this year. Last year was like putting our feet into water and this year we knew what we were diving in to!!
Everything went very smoothly.....about 2 hours after the announcement of elements we had enough of a script that we could start shooting. We shot until about one am and then all of the actors were wrapped until the next morning to provide sleep (luckily the director / editor is an insomniac!!). Saturday morning we all met again, heard play by play the edited footage and within an hour knew what we had to shoot / redo and how much screen time we had left.
All in all, by using this system, we were completely wrapped filming at 11:00 am on Saturday and the film was ready to be delivered Sunday morning.
Can't wait until next year!!!

Sleep, lack thereof
So after 45 min of sleep Fri night, we arrived at the first location Sat morning and shot into the night. We then moved to the second location (apartment) at about 11:30pm Sat night and shot til about 4:30am. While the editor was working Ross and I wrote the score on his recording equipment, and Michelle and I filmed some quick cut away shots. At about 3pm on Sun, the manager of the apt comes in and says we have to clear out immediately for guests coming later. So we pack up and move to the editor's house, losing almost 2 hours. We get the edit done, but with some technical issues, of course. Then a few of us go eat and celebrate. I get to bed about 3:30am Sun. I think that is the longest I have ever been awake in my life.
My suggestion for next year: grab cat naps when you can, if you can.
All told, it was great experience with a tremendous group of really talented people. Can't wait for the next project.

THE BLACK GHOST
Well we made it! We ran into several technical issues during the editing process, but my entire team worked very hard to produce a quality product. Lot's of lessons learned, such as making sure all paperwork is filled out and signed before any work actually gets started. Also, make sure that whatever equipment you are using to edit is compatible with your film equipment.
Unfortunately, we missed the deadline by just a few minutes. I thought that there could have been a case-by-case exceptions to the deadline, especially considering that we had some extreme weather that took place the night of the deadline, which inhibited our travel from the studio to the meeting place.
All in all, I am happy to have been a part of this event, and my team and I am looking forward to next year. I can't wait to see our work on the big screen this Thursday.
