The Las Vegas 48 Hour Film Project
What Happened During Your Weekend?
The Las Vegas filmmakers share stories from their wild weekend of filmmaking. (Blogging ended shortly after the filmmaking weekend.)
Good time
This was our first year in the 48 Hour Film Project, it was a great experience. We get caught up a lot talking about projects, it was a good change of pace to be under the gun to get something done.
Our short is up online here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5sfnd3dDIA
We enjoyed checking out some of the other films but didn't get to all 3 screenings, so like others have said post your links here!

Reviews
I looked for the reviews of this years 48 Hour Films in both the City Life and the Weekly but found nothing.
Normally they were invited to the screenings or were sent all of the films.
What happened this year?

It's a Good Day.
Thanks to Anthony and the rest of the VDE team!! I will always remember this as a fun experience and my very first 48 HR Film Project. Runner-up in our group for an Audience Award Winner.....not so bad either! It really was a good day. :)

Awards
Still no info on the awards on this end.
Here's our 2010 48 Hour Film "Happy Hour".

I have tried to look up and watch some of the others, since I missed the screenings.
Unfortunately not all of them are uploaaded, WTF come on, post your 2010 48 Hour Films somewhere so more people can see them.
Isn't that kind of the point?
Really the whole reason to to these, is to entice all of those new filmmakers to get out and just do it.
Look, it only took you 48 Hours and you made a film, right?
Can you imagine if you had a little more time what you might be able to do?
Don't wait till next year before you pull your equipment out of your closet and shoot something.
Start next week, and shoot, keep practicing.
Otherwise how will you ever get better?

What a Rush.
I enjoyed every part of this 48 hour film project. I'll never go skydiving or swim with sharks so this is my version of an adrenaline rush. Good job to all the teams that finished, I saw some very cool stuff in all 3 screenings. Looking forward to seeing more of what the Las Vegas film community can do.

Awards
I haven't heard anything yet either.
Not even for the audience awards, which should have been posted days ago.
Does anyone have a clue (names) on who the judges are?
Hopefully they will be having an awards ceremony this year, sometimes they don't.
Good Luck to all of the teams that made in before the deadline to be qualified to win some street cred;)

It only gets better
This is the second year we have participated in 48 Hour and I definitely had a blast. I had an awesome team. I think we It\\\'s a learning process that\\\'s for sure. Can\\\'t wait til next year.

16 hours, 123 shots, 11 locations. Holy crap
This was our second year in the 48. We have been filming together now for a year and are starting to come into our own groove. The genre was painful for us as we started with no female actors, but after frantic phone calls and a 6 hour writing binge, we were ready to film on Saturday. 16 hours of straight shooting with a multitude of shots and 11 locations, we pushed ourselves hard this year, but not nearly as hard as we will next time. As we settle back into producing 'The Paramedic Chronicles' for another year, we will take this experience and lessons learned to keep pushing forward. For anyone that would like to see our finished project, here it is...

I would love to see more of the work that I wasn't able to see form group A and C, so if you have posted it, let us know. Good luck to everyone and as always..

Fun Working Hard
Thanks to Anthony and Kelly for letting me in at the last moment. Everybody on the team was so nice and friendly that our experience filming could only be successful win or lose!

That was a blast!
This is my second time participating, and my first time as team leader. I had so much fun discovering my vision and realizing it in 48hrs.
My cast and crew were incredible. They filmed all day on Saturday to get the footage we needed. They gave support and enthusiasm above and beyond.
As a first time team, we ran out of time to do everything we wanted to (of course), but thanks to the efforts of everyone involved we delivered a film that was consistent and complete.
That was victory in my mind!
See you next year, when we will be tighter and more seasoned. :)

Rule R
I think we need a clear definition of what is considered Indecent and Offensive. How did Milo get pass Rule R? Most of us were offended and trusted this was a enforced rule. Please explain!

The past weekend was the smoothest film production our team has done yet. Everything fell in place and this time around we had enough editors to do shifts of sleep. All the films were great and check ours out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzVHN_T_7PI. Thanks 48 hour film project.

Its a good day...to lead a team
I think the best thing that i walked away from this expierence is having a new respect for the Team Leaders, or who ever is in charge of orginizing their team. This was my first year as a Team Leader (4th year in a 48hr.), but i was leading up a group of 30! I also found that having people leaving thier egos at the door also helped. See ya next year!

Had a blast
Even though I only slept about 7 hours the entire weekend, I had an awesome time. It was interesting to work with a huge group of people (some of which, never having worked with before) and just creating something. I also worked with new actors, and was blown away by the job they did. It was just cool to see a small vision come to fuition right around you.
Then there was the screening..which was awesome as well. Getting to see alll the other films people put effort into. I loved "Science Unfair" it was cute and funny and my favorite of the night would have to be "The Last Night". The colors, the wit, the acting, well done.

Our first 48 hours
This was our groups first time ever doing anything like this and we had a blast. Of course we learned a lot and so I\\\'m pretty sure next year we won\\\'t forget to turn the sound recorder on when we film a scene on location.... oops! It was crazy and hectic down to the wire especially when the final export to miniDV failed 3 times in a row. Luckily we had a bag of frozen french fries in the freezer to set the laptop on and keep it cool long enough to finish exporting the 4th time. All in all though for our first time I couldnt be happier with what we turned in and with 30 minutes to spare. A few people thought our team name was a bit too confident but if you don\\\'t believe you can do it then you never will. But next year its been unanimously decided that we will return as \\

1st Time?, No Problem - GO FOR IT!!!!!
Not sure if others outside the Vegas 48 Hour groups will read this, but I wanted to share my story.
I'm brand new to film... in fact, my first shoot was early this summer, but I wanted to dive in head first, deep into the film pool! Nothing can prepare you for your first 48 Hour project, and seeing that our crew was mostly students and newbies, we were ill prepared for the intense ride.
BUT, after hours of planning, shooting, and painful editing (by that time we were pretty Zombied out!) we saw that we were able to throw together a pretty good project!!!
We had an awesome crew, and our director even stepped out of his throne to step in as a lead actor because we were lacking! So, without a dedicated director, and a bunch of new guys, we proved against all odds that a Team of Green could be successful.
We scripted, shot, edited, and even wrote and recorded the music with plenty of time to spare... stupid computer and DVD Drive ruined our chances to be the first team to turn in at Putters! (Lesson Learned!)
So, i learned, if you're new, just do it! It's worth it!

Prepared?... OF COURSE..... not
VDE Films has been producing films locally for the past 10 years. Though, this is the first 48hr Film Competition we've been involved in.... and I have to tell you, after 4 feature length films, you think we'd be prepared.
But nothing could prepare us for the mind-twisting genre of Sci-Fi - which we've never done, and the fact that we fit 30 people in a small office space. The best thing about this experience is that we met a lot of great people and we didn't have to shoot outside that much!
Thanks to everyone on the team and I hope every filmmaker in this competition had been challenged in a positive way and hope to see you flourish in future endeavors.

WRAP PARTY 7/29
If you want to have your 48 Hour Films screened again, at the WRAP PARTY on 7/29.
You can drop them off anytime at TORINO'S located at 5570 W. Flamingo (between Decatur & Jones) and tell the bartender to hold them for Rusty's WRAP PARTY.
Good luck to everyone at the first two screening of groups A & B tonight, I can't attend, but I will be there in spirit.

Six years strong!
This years 48 Hour Film Project makes it our sixth year competing, and every year I think I love it that much more. My team really pulled it together this time around, and I couldn't be more proud. As always... it came down to the final minutes, but we overcame the deadline, worked as a team, and have another solid 48 short in the can. Can wait to watch all of the films! Catch you at the Suncoast!

The first time is always memorable
This was my first year being involved. Absolutely loved it, for anyone who has heard of 48 hour film project but has not excersized your talents then you need to just jump into the deep end next year. You will become addicted to working with talented actors and crew. We brain stormed until about 1am Friday then filmed all day and it is not easy as you might think. Nothing in life that's worth shooting for (your dreams) is easy but this is how it all happens, getting involved. Good luck and God bless.

Time limit
We fortunately got ours turned in with lots of time to spare.
Some teams didn't fair so well.
I thought it was a 48 Hour Film Project not a 48 Hours and 40 minutes Film Project.
I don't remember them ever giving an extra half an hour (let alone Marko's extra ten minutes) in the past years.
For those that were new to this, I hope that you will learn all from it and be back again next year, and make new mistakes.
That's what you learn from this, it's not as easy as people think it is to do.
Those that didn't make the turn in deadline, no fear, your films will still be screened on Wed & Thu night's.
They will also still be eligable for the audience awards, but that's all.
This is still contest and the rules need to be followed.
I have watched and listen many a "line of dialogue" that was mis-quoted and "props" that were barely seen let alone ever actaully used in the film.
The judges are usually aware of these rule violations too.
Maybe Marko (if he reads this) can put an "*" next to the teams names that didn't turn thier film in on time, here on this site.
There is something to be said for just being able to make a film in 48 Hours.
Congrats to ALL of the teams.

There are FIRST times for everything.
As team Fifty Fifty Studios, we learned there are things in life that you cannot control, such how hot the coffee gets ,how quickly time passes and how many people it takes to screw on a lens cap. Our cast and crew worked together to make this experience fun, exciting and unforgettable. I will guarantee that you will see us again in the future not only because we enjoyed all 48 hours together, but also because, WE LOVE WHAT WE DO.

Never had so much fun with so little sleep
Boy was this fun!
The "Key Core Group" didn't sleep from Friday till Sunday early and the crew was cool and gentle with us! One person said he knew we hadn't had alot of sleep when we'd stop in mid-sentence searching for a word.
With that kind of fatigue you gotta wonder if the movie will be coherent but seeing it Sunday it looked like you could figure it out - at least if you had the script to follow along. SO - we are going to send scripts to the audience so they know what just happened..........just kidding.
We all had a blast, I was blessed with a totally awesome crew and cast and I hope we can do it again each year. It's like the Indy 500 where the need for speed is essential and yet gotta keep your eye on the prize also.
One word of advice to anyone trying it for the first time - all the software to get your movie done always screws up when it finds out it's a 48 hr festival. NEVER TRUST IT........it's a rule written by the Movie Gods and is not transmutiable and always unforgiving.
Gotta love the experiance though!

3 Days of Sleepless Editing
After we found out what we had to do, we got straight to work, filming and planing in the first day, and Editing for the next 2 days. In this time I only slept for only a few hours, running on necessity to finish it we get the editing done at 5:21 PM on the last day, we burn it to dvd and like bats out of hell, headed to turn it in, with only minuets to spare we got it in. Best of luck to everyone!

Done them all
I may be the only person here in LV that has participated in every 48 Hour Film Project since they started here.
With a new producer thia was an interesting year and we'll see how it turns out in the next few days.
Our team ONE BIG CLUSTER FLICK started shooting around 11am on Sat. and we wrapped around 5pm.
We shot at only one location Torino's, which is also where I also hold my monthly WRAP PARTY.
I won't be going to the Thursday screenings (but Marko was kind enough to schedule our team to be in group A) so I can still attend my own WRAP PARTY on the 29th.
We will be screening our 48 (and others) there at Torino's 5570 W. Flamingo (between Decatur & Jones) 6-9pm on a big screen tv.
Good luck to all the teams.

Thanks to all the teams
It was such a pleasure working with everyone this year. Compliments came from Putter's staff and fellow filmmakers on how nice and fun everyone was. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the screenings this Wednesday and Thursday to view the fruit of all your hard work. Be sure to tell your family, friends and co-workers to attend the big premiere!
