The Jacksonville 48 Hour Film Project
What Happened During Your Weekend?
The Jacksonville filmmakers share stories from their wild weekend of filmmaking. (Blogging ended shortly after the filmmaking weekend.)
Black-Out, Production Footage
Despite finding out about the 48 hour film competition only 24 hours before it began, team Pick Me! had a blast and we are glad to have had the opportunity to meet many of the other teams.
Since we had no time to plan ahead, many key players (like our DP and our actress) on our crew had to work all day Saturday. We were still shooting at 3:00am after everyone got off work.
Our team was made up almost entirely of FCCJ film students and faculty.
I just edited together a short "behind the scenes" reel if anyone is interested.

Fantabulous
Just like las year, we had a blast. We figured this year would be easier, being that we had a year under our belt, but "Road Movie" ended up being more exhausting than we thought. (Who would've thought that standing in the sun all day would make you tired?)
It was another amazing experience for us, we've already thought of a few ways to improve (hopefully) next year.

What a trip ....
I am writing this on the Thursday after the project and I am just now getting over the sleep deprivation, however, I would do it all over again this next weekend! I am extremely proud of our team, The Menacing Tadpoles, that literally met in person for the first time the night of the genre drawing. I think given this “day of” meeting and the final quality that we were able to achieve is a true testament to the dedication of the 13 members of our cast and crew.
Note to fellow Tadpoles: See ya next year an hour before the drawing , same table.
Thanks,

Incredible Weekend
This was an incredible experience for me this weekend. My team didn’t meet each other until an hour before we pulled our genre (drama). Right off the bat I was thrilled with how lucky I was to have stumbled into such a great group of guys. As a first time writer/director I had no idea what to expect.
During the 48 hours allotted, we wrote, filmed, and edited during 40 of them. We ended up missing the deadline by 3 hours but I wouldn’t change a thing. We had 13 scenes, all requiring breakdowns and setups, at 4 locations. The end product was everything I could have hoped it would be. The guys were fantastic and showed an amazing amount of energy.
Our entire film takes place in the morning. So, from about 7:30 pm through 2:30 am, one can imagine shooting daytime scenes may be difficult. It took climbing over some bushes, holding lights while being attacked by bugs (who knew bugs were attracted to lights?), and a couple of other wild tricks but we managed to create a convincing daytime setting even in the dead of night.
The final product is still surreal to me. I simply can’t believe I had a hand in creating what is, at least to us, a fine piece of film. I hope all of the people who helped film and starred in “Another Day” feel the same tremendous sense of accomplishment that I feel.
Thanks.

Nervous, excited, and happy...
I had a great weekend...
The whole idea of the project was to highlight the talent of my entire improv troupe (Mad Cowford), and we more than succeeded. We all had a hand in the script, filming was amazing (albeit exhausting), and editing was a learning experience. I'm very happy I was able to find 3 amazing people with different editing expertise that were able to make an idea a reality.
I'm so proud of my team. They came together and made magic.

I had fun too...
As the producer and one of the actresses of Ready Set Film (Child's Play) I really had fun too. I just wish Hunter would get my name right - it's Alexandra. I think it is soooo cool that the oldest person on our team (except for our parent actors) is 10! I'm the youngest - I'm 6. My dad (Miss Sherry) needs to take dance lessons for real - he was funny.

It was fun
My friends and I had the most fun making two of the parents have real embarassing parts.
Thank you The Mac Daddy for doing it again. Thanks for the student film category and thanks to the anonymous microphone donor so we could have good sound this year.
I was kind of sad when my Mom tried to pay for the song I used when I edited my movie but I found another song and it was even better so then it was okay.
It was cool to be first to turn in too. You have to write down what take you liked best and the time stamp and that makes it real easy to find it after you upload it.
