Rules and Submission Guidelines
All ownership and rights to the scripts submitted to this contest remain with the original rights holders.
Electronic submissions only — PDF format 5 mb limit
You must submit a 1 - 3 page PDF synopsis for your script concept and 5 - 10 pages of your script.
If your concept is selected as a finalist, you will be given 100 days to complete your script. 48HFP will provide guidance on a case by case basis to help the finalists to polish a draft of the screenplay.
The Synopsis must be submitted by the writer. Material written by writing teams must be submitted by one of the writers, with consent of the other(s). All writers must be credited on the registration page of the 48 Hour Film Feature Script Project.
If the winning synopsis/script has been written by a writing team, the prize will be given to the person who submits the project. Each team is responsible for dividing or sharing the prize money.
When submitting a script, we recommend that original material be registered with the WGA or The Library of Congress before submitting to any competition, however we do not require registration.
By submitting an entry to the 48 Hour Film Feature Script Project, you represent and affirm that your entry is an original creative work, and does not infringe, misappropriate or violate the copyright, trademark or other intellectual rights of any third party.
By submitting an entry to the 48 Hour Film Feature Script Project, you acknowledge and agree that the Project, its employees, its partners and its judges (collectively "48HFP Feature Script Project partners") receive numerous submissions of ideas, stories and scripts, and that your entry, and the ideas and stories embodied in it, may be similar or identical to other material already received and/or developed by one or more of the 48HFP Feature Script Project partners. You also agree that you are not entitled to any compensation or credit for use by 48HFP Feature Script Project partners of any such other material.
All entrants must have participated in a 48 Hour Film Project.
All entrants must be at least 18 years of age.
Professional writers (anyone who has earned more that than $50,000 from professional writing services for film or TV) are not eligible.
All persons from anywhere in the world are eligible; however the material submitted must be in English.
All material submitted to other competitions or contests are eligible.
There are no requirements as to when the material was written.
The material submitted must not be encumbered by any obligation to, or option held by, a third party prior to entering the competition.
Any submitted work that becomes optioned, published, produced or purchased between the time of submission and the end of the judging period will no longer be eligible.
Adaptations are ineligible unless the underlying rights are owned by the writer.
